The British royal family has announced plans for the commemoration of VJ Day, with a larger number of royals signing on.
Prince William and Princess Catherine are usually part of the pack when the British royal family goes on official duties of a significant nature.
That’s why it was surprising when the royal family announced plans to mark the 80th anniversary of VJ Day on August 15th.
VJ Day stands for “Victory over Japan Day” and marks the day in 1945 when Japan capitulated and World War II could finally be declared over.
The Daily Express calls it “mysterious” that Prince William and Princess Catherine are not mentioned at all in the announcement from the royal family.
The British otherwise field a strong team on the day.
King Charles and Queen Camilla will attend a memorial service in Staffordshire, which will be broadcast live on the BBC, and before it starts, a taped speech from King Charles to the people on the occasion of the 80th anniversary will be broadcast.
The day will also be marked elsewhere by, among others, Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie as well as the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Prince Richard and Danish-born Duchess Birgitte.
Later in the fall, according to the Daily Mail, a reception for veterans will be held at Windsor Castle, where it is possible that Prince William and Princess Catherine will also attend.
However, nothing has yet been officially announced about which royals will be at the palace.
